Hi, I’m Jen Hayes Lee, mom of three boys, lover of hoops (yes, the jewelry kind), and the author of The Golden Hoops (HarperCollins, September 2025), my debut children’s book celebrating identity, belonging, and the magic every child carries within.

I’m launching The Golden Hoop Book Drive to bring thousands of copies of my joyful book and empowering author visits to children ages 4–8 across the country. My goal is to reach under-resourced communities that deserve to see themselves reflected in the pages of a book.

But this initiative isn’t just about books.

It’s about investing in the next generation—by surrounding every child with a golden circle of possibility, pride, and purpose.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

I am inviting parents, educators, corporations, nonprofits, bookstores, and YOU to help strengthen the golden circle of care for our  children.

Why This Matters

  • 3rd grade reading proficiency predicts future academic outcomes and self-esteem

  • Only 15% of Black and 20% of Hispanic 4th graders read at or above grade level

  • Less than 7% of children’s books published each year are written by Black authors

  • Books that reflect a child’s identity improve social-emotional health, empathy, and confidence
